Committee of the Constituent Assembly

The Constituent Assembly of India was formed in 1946 to draft a constitution for India. The Assembly was composed of elected representatives from various provinces and princely states, as well as nominated members representing communities such as women, minorities, and labor unions. The Assembly was chaired by Dr. Rajendra Prasad. 


The Committee of the Constituent Assembly was formed to assist in the drafting of the constitution. The following is a list of the various committees and their chairpersons:


1. Union Powers Committee - Jawaharlal Nehru

2. Drafting Committee - B.R. Ambedkar

3. Advisory Committee on Fundamental Rights, Minorities and Tribal and Excluded Areas - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

4. Steering Committee - Rajendra Prasad

5. Provincial Constitution Committee - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

6. Rules of Procedure Committee - Rajendra Prasad

7. Credentials Committee - Alladi Krishnaswamy Ayyar

8. House Committee - B. Pattabhi Sitaramayya

9. Order of Business Committee - K.M. Munshi

10. States Committee - Jawaharlal Nehru

11. Minorities Sub-Committee - H.C. Mukherjee

12. Excluded and Partially Excluded Areas Sub-Committee - Gopinath Bardoloi

13. Fundamental Rights Sub-Committee - J.B. Kripalani

14. Ad Hoc Committee on National Flag - Rajendra Prasad

15. Ad Hoc Committee on the Supreme Court - H.J. Kania

16. Ad Hoc Committee on the Functions of the Constituent Assembly - G.V. Mavalankar


Note that some committees had multiple chairpersons and vice-chairpersons as well.
